Our Strategy And Vision

To develop tomorrow’s global leaders today, from those who come from US racial minorities and by so doing from demonstrate that God has endowed diverse people regardless of age, color gender or background with the ability to excel.

Strategic Objectives

  • Educate and develop people from racial minority communities
  • Raise the most deserving Minority American scholars and students (described by the above group) from an environment where mere survival is the paramount objective, to where their excellence will have a significant global impact
  • By so doing demonstrate that God has endowed diverse people regardless of age, color or gender with the ability to excel
  • Students are chosen from all 3 levels of education, with initial focus on the ‘sweet spot’ of 6 th – 8 th grade
  • The 3 main categories of student attributes are;
  • A students who are academically brilliant
  • B students who exhibit exceptional leadership qualities
  • C students who exhibit exceptional artistic and technical qualities regardless of conventional definitions of academic brilliance

Vision Quantified

Statistical Analysis of *Minority American Population of Potential Beneficiaries

  • Population of US (Oct 2017) = 325,9m
  • All US Children Aged 5 – 19 = 61,9m
  • US *Minority Race Children Aged 5 – 19 = 30,0m
  • Top 1% (in terms of required quality to qualify as candidates of the Trust eligible for further suitability and classification analysis, estimated) = 300 000 students
  • If IEDTUSA is only able to reach one in every one thousand of these top students over the years to come, then the pool of potential IEDTUSA candidates could be estimated at = 300 – a huge but attainable number that could have a major positive impact on the future of the US - and indeed the world;

* Minority is classified as; Black or African American, American Indian, Alaska Native Alone, Asian Alone, Native Hawaiian, Other Pacific Islander Alone, Two or More races, and Hispanics (Incl. White Hispanics). White Non-Hispanics are classified as white.

The Role Players: Where You Fit In

Benefits of progression system

  • Ultimate goal is for beneficiaries to be financed and mentored with the long term goal of becoming trustees. Therefore;
  • In the long term, beneficiaries will become trustees and be best positioned to ensure that the trust serves the beneficiaries optimally
  • Donors must be encouraged to be mentors, for the following reasons;
  • They will simultaneously be able to see the fruit of their generosity
  • As Mentors, Donors will also be the first to detect from the beneficiaries, whether cash or mentoring resources are inadequate
  • Avoids the sub-optimal method of ‘throwing money at a problem’ and expecting that alone to fully solve sociological, emotional and psychological problems
  • After the inaugural trustees are appointed, future trustees will henceforth only be appointed when they have successfully mentored the beneficiaries, for a minimum period of 2 years
  • This ensures that only trustees who are sensitive to the practical needs of beneficiaries, (understood via mentoring) are appointed
  • Allows the other trustees the ability to scrutinize and monitor, the following essential characteristics of a trustee
  • Integrity
  • Reliability
  • Honesty
  • Absolute commitment to the welfare of the beneficiaries
Long term progression of roles of every beneficiary

Beneficiary Identification

  • We will endeavor to pick the top minority students, typically but not exclusively from economically challenged backgrounds, from all over the US and in consultation with their parents / guardians be placing them in homes in the best school districts in the country, with the permission of each candidate’s parents / guardians. In order to do this efficiently we will establish partnerships with reputable charities that share our vision.
  • Case Study of Our Inaugural Top US School Districts, e.g. according to www.niche.com the following are two schools districts we aim to be working with in the short-medium term
  • Wellesley, MA - Wellesley Public Schools is a top rated, public school district located in Wellesley, MA. It has 5,124 students in grades PK, K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 14 to 1. According to state test scores, 82% of students are at least proficient in math and 89% in reading. Here is Wellesley’s School District Ranking according to niche.com
  • Districts with the Best Teachers in Massachusetts - 6 of 238
  • Best Places to Teach in Massachusetts - 6 of 235
  • Best School Districts in Massachusetts - 7 of 218
  • It is comfortably in the top 1% of School Districts in the US according the niche.com ranking being placed 56th of 10,758 for the “Best School Districts in America”.

Trustees

  • Responsible for strategic direction of Trust
  • Overall responsibility for administration and controls of Trust
  • Due to having passed through mentorship screening, Trustees should already have the following:
  • Checks must be done to ensure that the Trustee is a law-abiding, moral individual
  • If such Mentor checks were not performed, background checks, trustee interviews and the ‘sign up’ questionnaire must be completed before the appointment of the Trustee. Such an instance of a Mentor not having supporting records, however, should be extremely rare i.e. only exception to the rule should be the founding Trustees
  • Have a duty to invite donors, mentors and trustees to an annual general meeting where the following will be reported:
  • Full annual financial report of income, balance sheet and cash flow statement

Our Thoughts With Respect To Academic Selection

Students must be evaluated in a fair and objective fashion, with objective screening being the first method of elimination where the emphasis is on selecting students ‘far above the average’. The following is a summary of the system.

  • Students selected ex sources
  • Pediatricians (primary)
  • Schools and academic reports (secondary)
  • Matric results, Universities and colleges (tertiary)

Our Thoughts With Respect To Leadership

The same system will be used as in Academic Selection except after the screening and classification stage following initial selection, students who fall in the shaded area, will fall into this category of leadership.

Our Thoughts With Respect To Artistic and Technical

The same system will be used as in Academic Selection except after the screening and classification stage following initial selection, students who fall in the shaded area, will be selected according to rank and availability of scholarships.

Our Thoughts With Respect To Sundry

Only candidates with top scores will be placed in exceptional schools. The rest may obtain scholarships to good schools depending on available resources.

3 = Top Decile,

2 = Second Decile,

1 = Third Decile,

0 = Fourth Decile or lower

International schooling or University options will be sought in the case of a student obtaining scores of more than 4

Education

Primary

  • Though it is expensive to reach children early, a good academic foundation is best when achieved as early as possible;
  • The focus will initially be in the latter stages of primary school when the learners have begun to establish a track record;
  • In collaboration with its partners, IEDT USA will seek to place learners who come from dysfunctional social backgrounds into more conducive learning environments with some of the country’s best educational institutions;
  • This will in all probability only become a medium term to long term focus of the trust as it obtains greater operational and reputational momentum.

Secondary

  • Given IEDT South Africa’s track record the secondary education level i.e. from 6 th grade to High School Senior year will be the trusts’ exclusive short-medium term focus;
  • At this level of schooling the learners will have established a verifiable track record making fair selection more attainable;
  • In collaboration with its partners, IEDT USA will seek to place learners who come from dysfunctional social backgrounds into more conducive learning environments with some of the country’s best educational institutions’ boarding facilities;
  • IEDT USA will seek to ensure that students who maintain IEDT USA’s high performance standards will be assisted in securing college and university places whether in the US, or abroad.

Tertiary

  • This level of schooling will more of a medium term focus and students who have already established a verifiable track record with IEDT USA will be the inaugural group of students to be assisted at this level ;
  • In collaboration with its business partners, IEDT USA will seek to ensure that students who maintain IEDT USA’s high performance standards will be assisted in securing college and university places whether in the US, or abroad;
  • Upon successful completion of college or university degrees beneficiaries will be encouraged to give back by becoming mentors, thereafter voluntarily donors and finally trustees. This will ensure that the trust has a perpetually self-improving flow of trustees who have tasted the “proof of the pudding” by being alumni beneficiaries of the IEDT USA foundation
